Product Details
Austrian painter Eduard Veith (1856-1925) made this idyllic, cozy picture of Mary and Jesus with three older children. Mary and Jesus have a spirit of blissful love about them, and the children are drawn to it. This scene is beautiful and gives us a place to put our imaginations. The one girl looks out at us, as if to say, "Don't you wish to be here with us too?" Beauty can draw us towards God, whose nature is love.
Veith was the son of an artist. They worked together for a long time painting churches, and then he made his own career in art, mostly doing commissions in Vienna, portraits and church work. He also had a long tenure as an art professor there. The German title is "Madonna mit Jesus umgeben von Kindern." He painted it in 1896. Oil on canvas. Original is 74 x 100 cm.
